Starting from scratch | Hodges family forced to rebuild after fire
Having somewhere to call ‘home’ brings comfort to many families. For country artist and actor JT Hodges, his wife Kasey and their two children, theirs was a beautiful home in Tennessee. That changed in January 2021 when the family home was destroyed by a fire.
Sparked by an electrical fire, flames and smoke took over the home. By the time firefighters extinguished the blaze, the Hodges family was thankful to be safe. But, while their beautiful family home was still standing, it was completely unlivable.
For the next year and a half, the Hodges family lived in a 40-foot travel trailer on their property while they prepped to bring beauty and security back to their home.
Rebuilding with a little help from their friends
The Hodges family turned to TV personality and interior designer Christina Hall to assist with redesigning something they could safely call ‘home’ again. They also enlisted a trusted friend and founder of Red Oak Building Company LLC, Josh Berry, to bring their vision to life.
Bringing beauty, security and durability to the design
The Hodges knew they had to start from scratch, but they also knew they needed materials that would prove to be not only beautiful, but also durable enough to stand up to the wear and tear of their farm animals and growing children.
“We’re hard on homes,” says Kasey. “I want things that are going to last.”
In addition to wanting a home that could truly be lived in, the Hodges family also wanted to capture the aesthetics and views of the scenic rolling hills and quintessential Tennessee countryside. “Normally, windows invite you into the house. In this case, these windows are inviting us out,” JT says.
Equally as inviting is the fiberglass front door. “This front door just makes me want to go out on the porch. I want to go out there with my guitar,” says JT.
“What was great about [choosing our windows and doors] was the options, the options based off our non-conventional design for the home,” says JT. The Hodges home redesign incorporates a little bit of farmhouse with some modern elements and timeless touches to create a truly unique residence that evokes both of their senses of style.
The home's modern exterior was blended with the eclectic interior design with new windows and doors. The family utilized several JELD-WEN windows to add beauty and lots of natural light. “We don’t have to turn lights on in this house until about noon,” JT says.
Shaker style interior doors used throughout the residence ensure consistency and cohesion between interior and exterior designs.
Beyond beauty, JT says the doors also bring an important functionality to their home. “The thing that I love about the interior doors, as a musician, you can shut those, and you have some pretty good sound proofing.”
Now, the Hodges’ vision has come to life. Their home is completely rebuilt, filled with beauty and security for many years of living.
